This employee has the responsibility for coordination of total resident care. RN Nursing Supervisor performs responsible supervisory and professional work in directing and coordinating all nursing units. The individual must have had advanced training and broad nursing experience including supervisory duties. The work requires administrative ability, knowledge of training techniques, ability to adapt techniques and procedures in accordance with unusual situations, and the exercise of initiative and good judgment.
The work is carried out according to standards of professional nursing practices, facility policies, rules and regulations, and State and Federal regulations.
- The RN Nursing Supervisor must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and must have current registration with the professional board of nurse examiners of the State.
- Experience in the nursing field.
- Supervisory experience in long term care is required.
- Thorough knowledge of nursing theory, techniques and practices.
- Thorough knowledge of the specialized procedures applied and equipment used in the area to which assigned.
- Knowledge of dietetic, sanitation, and personal hygiene.
- Knowledge of medications, their proper dosage and expected results.
- Skill in handling and manipulating instruments and equipment.
- Ability to coordinate and supervise the nursing functions in an effective manner.
- Empathetic attitude toward residents and to gain their confidence in order to work with them effectively.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions of a technical nature.
- Ability to recognize and identify symptoms and to make decisions quickly in emergencies.
- Ability to train subordinates in work procedures and to organize and direct training carried out by members of the staff.
- Ability to positively interact with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
- Provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test.
- Interacts with residents, families, visitors and employees.
- Carries out other tasks as requested in situations where hands‑on intervention/participation may be required.
