Position Summary

This employee coordinates total resident care. The RN Nursing Supervisor performs supervisory and professional work in directing and coordinating all nursing units. The individual must have advanced training and broad nursing experience, including supervisory duties. The work requires administrative ability, knowledge of training techniques, the capability to adapt procedures to unusual situations, and the exercise of initiative and good judgment. All activities are carried out according to professional nursing standards, facility policies, and State and Federal regulations.

Responsibilities

/ Accountabilities
  • Verify daily staffing and redistribute as necessary.
  • Collaborate with charge nurses to exchange information regarding resident care, condition, and all matters affecting well‑being; recommend nursing processes and communicate concerns to other department supervisors.
  • Make rounds, morning and night, assessing resident condition with special attention to critically ill residents.
  • Ensure each resident’s care plan is followed.
  • Perform medication passes and/or direct resident care as needed.
  • Participate in resident care committee meetings.
  • Reinforce training and orientation of nursing personnel and provide positive reinforcement.
  • Respond to all emergencies throughout the shift (e.g., changes in resident condition or death pronouncements).
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and sanitary environment for residents, employees, and visitors.
  • Secure the building during evening and night hours by checking doors and alarms per nursing facility protocols.
  • Review incident and investigative reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Monitor meal service on units and in dining areas to identify issues requiring intervention and to ensure resident meal satisfaction and nutritional adequacy.
  • Assist in developing and implementing the nursing facility Quality Improvement Program.
  • Ensure residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere that recognizes individual needs and rights.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
  • Specific Educational / Vocational Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school and current registration with the state nursing board.
  • Experience in nursing practice.
  • Supervisory experience in long‑term care is required.
  • Job Skills
    • Thorough knowledge of nursing theory, techniques, and practices.
    • Knowledge of specialized procedures and equipment applied in the assigned area.
    • Knowledge of dietetic, sanitation, and personal hygiene.
    • Knowledge of medications, proper dosage, and expected results.
    • Skill in handling and manipulating instruments and equipment.
    • Ability to coordinate and supervise nursing functions effectively.
    • Empathetic attitude toward residents, gaining their confidence for effective interaction.
    • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions of a technical nature.
    • Ability to recognize symptoms and make quick decisions in emergencies.
    • Ability to train subordinates and organize training carried out by staff members.
    • Positive interaction with personnel, residents, families, visitors, government agencies, and the public.
    • Provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test.
    Performs Related Duties
    • Interact with residents, families, visitors, and employees.
    • Carry out other tasks as requested where hands‑on intervention or participation may be required.
