Rate: $45 to $50.

Position Summary

This employee is responsible for coordination of total resident care and performs supervisory and professional work directing and coordinating all nursing units. Advanced training and broad nursing experience, including supervisory duties, are required. The role requires administrative ability, knowledge of training techniques, and the exercise of initiative and good judgment, carried out in accordance with professional nursing practices, facility policies, and State and Federal regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Verifies daily staffing and redistribution as necessary.
  • Collaborates with charge nurses daily to exchange information regarding resident care, resident condition, and matters affecting resident well-being; makes recommendations regarding the nursing process and communicates concerns to supervisors of other departments.
  • Makes rounds, morning and night, to assess residents' condition, giving special attention to critically ill residents.
  • Ensures that the individual nursing care plan is followed for each resident.
  • Performs medication passes and/or direct resident care as needed.
  • Participates in resident care committee meetings.
  • Reinforces training and orientation of nursing personnel and provides positive reinforcement.
  • Answers any/all emergencies throughout the shift (e.g., change of resident condition or pronouncement of death).
  • Assists in assuring a safe and sanitary environment for residents, employees, and visitors.
  • Assures that the building is secure during the evening and night hours by checking doors and alarms according to nursing facility protocols.
  • Reviews incident and investigative reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Monitors meal service on the units and in the dining areas to identify issues requiring intervention and to assure resident meal satisfaction and nutritional adequacy.
  • Assists in development and implementation of the nursing facility Quality Improvement Program.
  • Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere that recognizes the individuals' needs and rights.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
  • Qualifications
    • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current registration with the State board of nurse examiners.
    • Experience in the nursing field.
    • Supervisory experience in long-term care is required.
    Job Skills
    • Thorough knowledge of nursing theory, techniques, and practices.
    • Thorough knowledge of specialized procedures and equipment used in the assigned area.
    • Knowledge of dietetic, sanitation, and personal hygiene.
    • Knowledge of medications, their proper dosage, and expected results.
    • Skill in handling and manipulating instruments and equipment.
    • Ability to coordinate and supervise nursing functions effectively.
    • Empathetic attitude toward residents, gaining their confidence for effective work.
    • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions of a technical nature.
    • Ability to recognize symptoms and make decisions quickly in emergencies.
    • Ability to train subordinates in work procedures and organize staff training.
    • Ability to positively interact with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.
    • Requirement to provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test.

    • Carrying out other tasks as requested where hands-on intervention or participation may be required.
