Looking for a fast-paced, customer-focused role where you can make a direct impact in the community? Upper Darby Township is actively seeking a Permit Technician to support the Township's Licenses & Inspections Department through permit processing, customer assistance, inspection coordination, and administrative support. This highly visible, public-facing position plays an important role in helping residents, landlords, contractors, business owners, and property representatives navigate licensing, permitting, and inspection requirements while ensuring compliance with Township codes and procedures.
Key responsibilities include processing permit and license applications, coordinating inspections and re-inspections, maintaining accurate records, and providing day-to-day support for the Township's Rental Licensing and Use & Occupancy Inspection Programs. The Permit Technician will communicate with landlords, property owners, contractors, realtors, and residents regarding application requirements, inspection scheduling, compliance issues, and licensing deadlines. The position also supports code enforcement operations by tracking violations, preparing notices and correspondence, collecting payments, maintaining departmental records, and assisting inspectors and department leadership with administrative functions.
Ideal candidates will possess strong organizational and customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy municipal office environment. Successful candidates should be comfortable working directly with the public, interpreting procedures and requirements, and communicating professionally in a regulatory setting. - Monday through Friday 9:00 am through 4:30 pm
Pay Range - $26.45 per hour

Position Requirements
- Qualified candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED and at least two (2) years of experience in permitting, municipal administration, property management, customer service, or a related field. Applicants must hold a valid Pennsylvania Driver's License and successfully complete all required background checks and pre-employment screenings. Candidates must also obtain either an ICC Permit Technician Certification or ICC Code Enforcement Technician Certification within five (5) months of hire if not already certified.
Preferred candidates will demonstrate familiarity with construction, housing, permitting, or rental licensing terminology and possess strong administrative, communication, and recordkeeping skills. Experience working with permitting, licensing, or records management software, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, is highly desirable. Candidates should also have the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
