Upper Darby Township is a municipal government where every day we embrace the idea that Upper Darby is the World in One Place. We are proud of our employees-individuals from all walks of life with deep ties to the township-who work together to promote the health and well-being of our community. Upper Darby's history is rich and far-reaching, spanning colonial America, the founding of our nation, and beyond.

The township's population has evolved with each era, reflecting the diversity of both the United States and the wider world. Employees interested in the township's history are encouraged to explore the Upper Darby Historical Society.

Looking for a fast-paced, customer-focused role where you can make a direct impact in the community? Upper Darby Township is actively seeking a Permit Technician to support the Township's Licenses & Inspections Department through permit processing, customer assistance, inspection coordination, and administrative support. This highly visible, public-facing position plays an important role in helping residents, landlords, contractors, business owners, and property representatives navigate licensing, permitting, and inspection requirements while ensuring compliance with Township codes and procedures.

Key responsibilities include processing permit and license applications, coordinating inspections and re-inspections, maintaining accurate records, and providing day-to-day support for the Township's Rental Licensing and Use & Occupancy Inspection Programs. The Permit Technician will communicate with landlords, property owners, contractors, realtors, and residents regarding application requirements, inspection scheduling, compliance issues, and licensing deadlines. The position also supports code enforcement operations by tracking violations, preparing notices and correspondence, collecting payments, maintaining departmental records, and assisting inspectors and department leadership with administrative functions.

Ideal candidates will possess strong organizational and customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy municipal office environment. Successful candidates should be comfortable working directly with the public, interpreting procedures and requirements, and communicating professionally in a regulatory setting. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys administrative coordination, public interaction, and contributing to the effective delivery of municipal services.
