Description

PURPOSE:

The Supply Chain Intern assists the VP of Supply Chain and staff with support on two primary projects. The first key project is working with the Carbondale purchasing manager and team on implementing key AI and/or process improvement projects from our A3 Strategy Deployment, focused around initiatives that will help us achieve our 2026 inventory turn goal. The second will focus around procurement skill improvement via discovery of new tools, AI enabled process improvements, training, etc.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES AND

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Assist Supply Chain team (tactical site procurement and commodity managers):

* Participate in key meetings to absorb the top issues of the team

* Partner with the commodity managers and site procurement teams to help identify and roll out an A.I. based process or skill set improvement to assist with:

* Material cost reduction

* Improved payment terms

* Faster lead-times

* Improved inventory turns

* Utilize the latest analytics, tools and AI enabled processes to help the whole procurement team make significant progress on our strategic objectives

* Support and participate in the overall Gentex intern team, with associated team meetings, etc.

* Assist with spend analytics using our new QLIK based dashboard, working with both site and strategic teams to drive enhancements in this toolset

* Prepare progress reports weekly, with end of summer project presentation as the capstone

Requirements

EDUCATION AND/OR PROFESSIONAL LICENSE(s):

* Enrolled in a degree program for Supply Chain or Purchasing/Logistics

EXPERIENCE:

* Previous Supply Chain internships / co-op programs preferred but not required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

* Proficient with MS Word & Excel

* Experience with any ERP business software preferred

* Understanding of A.I tools

* Data mining and analysis

CONTACT WITH OTHERS:

Internal:
Position requires almost daily contact with supply chain and operations, with occasional interaction with engineering, finance, as well as department managers and other Gentex employees.

External:
Contact with individuals outside the facilities such as individuals at other Gentex facilities, vendors and suppliers.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL/COMMUNICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee may lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The individual must have a high level of comprehension, and a high level of general, verbal, written, and numerical intelligence.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Works majority of the day in a climate controlled environment, with the exception of or otherwise specified, performing work in the warehouse or manufacturing areas which are subject to changes in temperature and/or noise.

TRAVEL:

Generally, travel is not required

LOCATION:

Gentex's Carbondale facility is located in Northeastern Pennsylvania in Lackawanna County. Carbondale, PA is about twenty miles north of Scranton, PA, 50 miles south of Binghamton, NY, and about 125 miles from New York City and Philadelphia. The area hosts numerous nearby state parks, nature preserves and local colleges and universities, including The University of Scranton and Marywood University. Northeast Pennsylvania is a beautiful area and offers an excellent cost of living.
