Neale Community Development Assistant

Job Overview

Part‑time student employment at the University of Wisconsin‑Stevens Point in the Department of Housing and Residence Life. The role requires living in the residence hall assigned to provide student support, program facilitation, and administrative assistance.

Compensation and Benefits
  • Hourly pay: $21.00 per hour (period/activity pay)
  • Stipend: $650 per semester for the first two semesters; $700 per semester thereafter.
  • Room:
    All halls except Suites@201 receive a double‑room waiver contingent on budget approval;
    Suites@201 receive a single‑occupancy waiver. Full semester waiver for meal plan fees.
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with hall staff to develop materials, strategies, and support social and hall programs.
  • Attend hall activities and events as directed by the Residence Hall Director (RHD).
  • Create community development materials such as bulletin boards in common spaces (not RA floor‑specific).
  • Facilitate educational conversations with residents about housing standards and policies.
  • Model wellness lifestyle and teach students through creative efforts.
  • Encourage student ideas and involvement throughout the residence hall.
  • Maintain open communication with the RHD concerning programming plans and resident concerns.
  • Complete administrative tasks for hall programs (e.g., SPIN logistics, marketing). Provide five office hours per week for administrative desk responsibilities.
  • Attend all weekly meetings scheduled by the RHD, including one‑on‑ones and staff meetings.
  • Conduct monthly health and safety checks of residence hall rooms and report issues to the RHD.
  • Train, co‑supervise, and schedule desk staff including Resident Assistants; plan and facilitate front desk staff meetings.
  • Provide co‑advising support for Program Board teams; organize and implement events.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding job‑related information and staff relationships.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Serve as Campus Security Authority per the Cleary Act: complete required training and report all crimes.
  • Report incidents of sexual assault, harassment, and other gender‑based discrimination to appropriate university offices.
  • Uphold FERPA and protect confidential student information.
Qualifications
  • Pass a criminal background check, misconduct reference check, and position‑of‑trust check.
  • Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the start of employment.
  • Full‑time student enrollment (12 credits or more) for the 2026‑2027 academic year.
  • Experience living in a residence hall for at least two semesters.
  • Experience in the Department of Housing and Residence Life as a student leader (e.g., Program Board, Desk Receptionist, Resident Assistant) for two semesters.
  • Current UW‑Stevens Point student.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Leadership experience (coaching, executive board, tutoring).
  • Experience educating individuals on health, wellness, academics, life skills.
  • Experience planning, developing, and implementing events.
  • Experience completing administrative tasks.
  • Experience working with diverse groups of people.
Conditions of Employment
  • Must have lived in a residence hall or communal living experience for at least two semesters before hiring.
  • Adhere to a cumulative GPA of 2.5; a semester GPA of 1.50 or lower may result in contract rescission.
  • Work a maximum of 20 hours per week during academic semesters.
  • Live in the assigned residence hall whenever UW is in session; assignment may change yearly.
  • After two years, required to move to a new community style to support professional growth.
  • Maintain good conduct standing throughout the contract; prior conduct records reviewed before employment.
  • Obtain prior approval from the RHD before engaging in major extracurricular activities.
