Asphalt Laborer
The Asphalt Laborer supports paving operations by assisting with the placement, spreading, leveling, and finishing of asphalt on roadways, commercial parking lots, and residential driveways. This role involves hands-on work with tools and materials, maintaining a clean and safe job site, and working closely with equipment operators, truck drivers, and crew members to ensure high-quality pavement surfaces.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with the placement, spreading, leveling, and finishing of asphalt to achieve smooth and uniform pavement surfaces.
- Use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, lutes, brooms, and tampers to support daily paving operations.
- Prepare and clean job sites before, during, and after paving activities, ensuring a safe and organized work area.
- Load, unload, and move materials, equipment, and supplies as needed to support the crew and maintain workflow.
- Assist equipment operators, truck drivers, and other crew members with various tasks to keep projects on schedule.
- Perform grading, leveling, and compaction support duties to meet project specifications and quality standards.
- Set up, maintain, and remove proper traffic control devices and follow work-zone safety practices at all times.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures and consistently demonstrate strong safety awareness.
- Conduct routine cleaning and basic maintenance of tools and equipment to keep them in proper working condition.
- Report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, and jobsite hazards promptly to supervisors.
- Support quality control efforts by monitoring pavement conditions and helping ensure smooth, uniform surfaces.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor or superintendent to support overall project success.
Essential
Skills:
- 1–3 years of experience working on a paving crew.
- 1–3 years of general construction experience.
- General labor experience in construction or paving environments.
- Basic understanding of asphalt materials and paving processes.
- Ability to work outdoors in heat and varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift more than 100 pounds safely and repeatedly.
- Proficiency using hand tools such as shovels, rakes, lutes, brooms, and tampers.
- Experience using basic power tools in a construction setting.
- Strong safety awareness and adherence to safety policies and procedures.
- High attention to detail to support quality workmanship and clean job sites.

- Basic hand and power tool experience in construction or paving.
- Understanding of work-zone and traffic control safety practices.
- Reliability and willingness to perform physically demanding tasks.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a crew.

Work Environment:
This role is based outdoors on active job sites, including roadways, commercial parking lots, and residential driveways. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with work performed in varying weather conditions, including heat and other seasonal elements. The position involves regular use of hand tools and power tools, handling heavy materials, and working around paving equipment and trucks in a construction environment, with a strong emphasis on maintaining safe work zones and traffic control.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fayetteville, PA.
Pay and Benefits:
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $27.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
