C. Deck & Sons, a division of H&K Group, Inc., is seeking an experienced Screed Operator to apply asphalt to road beds, parking lots, and airport runways. This position involves operating roller equipment and other asphalt‑related activities to meet daily production goals, often transferring between tasks as required.

- Operate asphalt paver or screed to apply asphalt per plan and quality specifications as instructed by the crew superintendent, ensuring daily schedules and estimates are met, and perform additional tasks of other positions as needed.
- Screed operation involves making normal adjustments to obtain proper depth, grade, and finished cross‑section of asphalt material via screed controls.
- Operate or learn to operate other equipment required on an asphalt crew.
- Oil, grease, service, and make normal operating adjustments to the equipment.
- Operate asphalt paver/screed within the designated area with attention to detail and emphasis on craftsmanship.
- Guide and direct dump trucks while backing up to the machine hopper when operating a paver.
- Manipulate hand or foot levers to control movements of machine spreads and level asphalt on subgrade of highways and related surfaces such as parking lots and streets.
- Have a thorough understanding of all aspects of the paving industry, including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction, and other details related to asphalt paving.
- One to two years of related asphalt and road construction experience preferred.
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and dusty environments.
- Willingness to travel and work away from home when required.
- Willingness to work overtime, nights, and weekends when necessary.
- Strong work ethic.
- Ability to work in a team setting.
- Communication skills; ability to communicate with supervisors, co‑workers, contractors, and the general public in a courteous, professional manner at all times.
- Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
- Valid driver’s license.
