Construction Superintendent – Commercial Cannabis Cultivation Facilities

This role oversees all on‑site construction activities for specialized commercial cannabis cultivation facilities, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in full compliance with state cannabis regulations, local building codes, and industry‑specific environmental and security standards. The Construction Superintendent leads daily field operations, coordinates subcontractors and specialized vendors, and serves as the primary on‑site contact for project stakeholders throughout the construction lifecycle.

Responsibilities
  • Lead day‑to‑day on‑site construction activities for cannabis grow facilities, including structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and cultivation‑specific systems.
  • Maintain and manage the overall project schedule, coordinating trade sequencing to achieve key milestones and project deadlines.
  • Conduct daily site walks to monitor progress, verify quality of workmanship, and ensure adherence to safety standards.
  • Ensure all construction work complies with architectural plans, engineering specifications, and cannabis‑industry requirements such as environmental controls and security infrastructure.
  • Directly manage all subcontractors, including scheduling, task assignments, performance oversight, and conflict resolution.
  • Verify subcontractor work quality, adherence to plans and specifications, and compliance with safety standards and company policies.
  • Hold subcontractors accountable for timelines, workmanship, documentation, and adherence to project requirements.
  • Coordinate specialized vendors installing cultivation systems, including environmental controls (HVACD, dehumidification, CO₂), grow lighting systems (LED, HPS, automated controls), irrigation and fertigation systems, and security systems (access control, surveillance).
  • Serve as the primary on‑site point of contact for owners, architects, engineers, inspectors, and regulatory officials.
  • Lead daily or weekly coordination meetings with subcontractors and trades to align on schedule, scope, and site logistics.
  • Communicate project updates, risks, constraints, and schedule impacts clearly and promptly to the Project Manager and ownership team.
  • Ensure all construction activities meet applicable state cannabis regulations, including facility layout, sanitation, and security requirements.
  • Coordinate and prepare for inspections with local authorities, fire marshals, and cannabis regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs, site reports, safety documentation, and change order records to support project transparency and compliance.
  • Enforce strict adherence to OSHA standards and company safety protocols across the jobsite.
  • Conduct regular toolbox talks and safety briefings with subcontractors and field personnel.
  • Identify, address, and resolve quality issues proactively to maintain high construction standards.
  • Monitor labor, materials, and equipment usage to prevent cost overruns and support budget adherence.
  • Review subcontractor invoices, verify completion of work, and provide approval or feedback based on field conditions.
  • Identify and recommend value‑engineering opportunities that reduce costs or improve efficiency without compromising compliance, safety, or facility performance.
  • Oversee material management on site, including delivery coordination, storage, and proper use to reduce waste and maintain schedule.
  • Apply general contracting and carpentry knowledge to support field decision‑making and problem‑solving.
  • Collaborate with mechanical and other specialty trades to ensure proper installation and integration of complex building systems.
  • Coordinate project documentation and use construction management tools to support efficient project execution and communication.
Essential Skills
  • 3–5 years of experience as a Construction Superintendent.
  • 5+ years of commercial construction experience.
  • Proven background in greenhouse or cannabis grow construction.
  • Experience building cannabis cultivation, food‑grade production, pharmaceutical, or clean‑room facilities.
