Summary
The Band Front Advisor will play a crucial role in supporting the Oxford Area High School marching band during the fall season. This seasonal position involves working closely with the band director and student musicians to enhance the overall performance experience. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in music and performance, along with excellent leadership and communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Assist the band director in coordinating rehearsals and performances for the marching band.
- Develop and implement visual choreography and staging for band performances.
- Provide instruction and guidance to band front members, including color guard and auxiliary units.
- Collaborate with the band director to select appropriate music and visual elements for performances.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all band front members during practices and performances.
- Organize and lead sectionals and rehearsals focused on visual performance techniques.
- Communicate regularly with students, parents, and staff regarding schedules, expectations, and performance details.
- Attend all rehearsals, performances, and competitions as required.
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages student engagement and teamwork.
- Assist with logistics related to performances, including equipment setup and breakdown.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a leadership role within a marching band or similar organization.
- Strong knowledge of music theory, marching techniques, and performance practices.
- Ability to teach and inspire students of varying skill levels.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends during the marching season.
- A background in dance or visual performance is a plus.
- Must pass a background check in accordance with school district policies.
- High school diploma or equivalent; further education in music or performing arts is preferred.
