Position: Class Notes Editor (Part-Time)
Location: College Hill

Total time for the position:
Approximately 52 hours/month or 13 hours/week.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manually edit and publish all new Leopard Link submissions on a rolling basis. That includes fixing punctuation/spelling errors as necessary.
  • Update the “Alumni Highlights” online landing page quarterly. Duties might include reaching out to alumni with follow-up emails to obtain photo(s) or more information.
  • Coordinate with Alumni Engagement to send out occasional e-blasts to alumni calling for news.
  • Research and recruit news of alumni who have notable achievements via Google Alerts, Linked In notifications, etc., so that we may add them to our database and pages of the magazine.
  • Serve as clearinghouse for obituaries; respond and forward all obituary news
  • Monitor data regarding alumni participation with Class Notes and compile trends in higher education with other Class Notes sections.
  • Estimated: 32 hours/month

The Class Notes Editor will serve as the point person for Class Correspondents.

  • Distribute obituaries three times a year to Class Correspondents.
  • Work with Class Correspondents three times a year to get their columns published on Leopard Link. Duties might include helping alumni navigate the website.
  • Provide information and onboarding for newly interested Class Correspondents as needed.
  • Work with Alumni Engagement to suggest volunteer awards (once a year).
  • Estimated: 6 hours/month

The Class Notes Editor will serve as section editor for Lafayette Magazine’s “In All the World”

  • Organize, curate, and edit the Class Notes line items (three times a year) with the guidance of the alumni magazine editor and populated with alumni news from Leopard Link.
  • Curate other editorial elements for the section including alumni authors, news highlights, obituaries, “Marquis” page etc.
  • Estimated: 8 hours/month

The Class Notes Editor will contribute to other stories for the magazine

  • Write at least one of the front-of-book departments in every issue of the magazine, typically assigned between 500-900 words. The size of the story assignment(s) can be contingent on interest and current workload.
  • Estimated: 6 hours/month

QUALIFICATIONS

Organized, deadline-driven, and detail-oriented communications professional who has a passion for storytelling, interest in alumni magazine publishing, and proficient level of experience in creative writing.
