Job Summary

As a Dental Hygienist or Public Health Dental Hygiene Practitioner provides dental care through government-sponsored programs including Medicaid and CHIP.This role focuses on the underserved population, especially children, and involves telephonic outreach to close care gaps. Occasional travel for events and outreach support may be required. Locations include Dauphin, Lebanon, Berks, Schuylkill, and Northumberland.

Work from home (Pennsylvania).

Job Duties
  • Applies protective topical agents, sealants, fluoride and related procedures within the scope of practice for a Public Health Dental Hygiene Practitioner.
  • Assesses dental condition and needs of members using patient screening procedures including medical history and medications.
  • Contacts parents and guardians via telephonic outreach to provide oral health education and counseling.
  • Develops dental health program and strategy with Quality Improvement, Medical Management staff and Dental Benefit Vendor in areas identified as having gaps in coverage.
  • Develops outreach strategy and maintains records of all outreach and communications.
  • Provides education materials and outreach to identify eligible members, working with private practice pediatricians, Federally Qualified Health Centers, Rural Health Clinics, or schools to promote oral health care and wellness.
  • Refers members for follow‑up with a dentist for an annual dental exam and assists members in obtaining an appointment with a local dentist.
  • Works with local agencies such as WIC, Head Start, nurseries, pre‑schools, and child‑care programs to identify parents and programs for education, enrollment and treatment opportunities.
  • Provides comprehensive age‑appropriate education programs related to all aspects of good dental care.
  • Works with community navigators to recruit schools and agencies for education and enrollment treatment programs.
  • Schedules for and attends community‑based events.
  • Works primarily in a clinical environment.
  • Accountable for satisfying all job specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
  • Licensed Public Health Dental Hygiene Practitioner – PA State Board of Dentistry (license copy required).
  • Licensed Dental Hygienist – PA State Board of Dentistry (license copy required).
