THE POSITIONAs a Dentist with the Department of Human Services (DHS), Bureau of Juvenile Justice Services (BJJS) you make a powerful impact on the health and confidence of young people by providing skilled and compassionate dental care. DESCRIPTION OF WORKThis position provides professional dental services to adjudicated youth across several residential facilities. The role focuses on clinical care, education, and safe, organized dental practices. As a Dentist, you will perform the following duties:
- Dental Examinations: Perform exams, interpret x-rays, identify conditions, and deliver appropriate treatments to residents
- Clinical Procedures: Provide cleanings, restorations, root canals, extractions, and periodontal care using proper methods and instruments
- Treatment Planning: Develop dental service plans, guide oral hygiene programs, and complete documentation for each resident
- Safety Practices: Implement sterilization, infection control, radiology safeguards, and equipment maintenance to ensure a secure environment

Collaboration:
Consult with nursing staff, orthodontists, and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate schedules, referrals, and resident care - Record Management: Maintain accurate dental records, prepare reports, and uphold required standards in all documentation

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours will vary, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. You will alternate working one week at Loysville Youth Development Center (LYDC) and split your time one week between Youth Forestry Camp 3 (YFC3) and South Mountain Secure Treatment Unit (SMSTU).

- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $ (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduation from an approved school of dentistry.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Special Requirement:
- You must possess a license to practice dentistry issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry.
Other Requirements:
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
- A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination and a drug screening.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
