Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, CHOP Cardiovascular Institute(CVI) and the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for an Assistant Professor position inthe tenure track. Expertise is required in the specific area of fundamental mechanistic or translational research relevant to pediatric cardiovascular disease, including but not limited to:cardiac development and regeneration, immune or metabolic originsof cardiovascular disease, heritable cardiac diseases such ascardiac channelopathies, cardiomyopathies, andaortopathies/vasculopathies, precision- and genetics-based therapeutics, bioengineering approaches and novel technologies for cardiovascular research and therapeutics.

Applicants must have anM.D and/or Ph.D or equivalent degree.

The faculty appointment will be in the Department of Pediatrics oran academic department in the Perelman School of Medicine that is consistent with the scientific expertise of the successful candidate.

Teaching responsibilities may include participating in graduate and/or medical student education; mentoring trainees at multiplecareer stages; presenting lectures and leading didactic sessions as appropriate.

Clinical responsibilities may include outpatient and inpatient consults and attending duties for qualified clinician-scientists.

Clinical responsibilities are not applicable for basic scientistcandidates.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include establishing and maintaining a scientifically impactful independent research program that has relevance to pediatric heart and vascular disease;sustaining significant extramural funding.

Candidates will be members of the newly established CHOPCardiovascular Institute (CVI). The successful candidate will develop an independent, extramurally supported research program focused on fundamental or translational questions relevant to pediatric heart and vascular biology and disease.

CHOP is a world class leader in the delivery of pediatric care,research, and training pediatric leaders of the future. Thepediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery groups within the CHOPCardiac Center are well-known as innovative leaders in the care of children with congenital forms of heart and vascular disease, andin the development of breakthrough therapeutics and diagnostics.

Recently, the CHOP CVI was launched with the primary mission of establishing a world-class comprehensive research center that spansbasic discovery to translation and clinical implementation relevant to pediatric heart and vascular diseases. The CHOP CVI will belinked in collaborative partnership with the Penn CVI, home torenowned basic and translational scientists. This partnership will provide support and infrastructure for discovery, translational,and clinical research aimed at cardiovascular health and diseaseacross the entire lifespan.

Candidates need to demonstrate potential for independent,high-impact scholarship; vision and commitment for leveraging therich and uniquely collaborative and translational environment atCHOP and Penn to tackle fundamental questions in pediatriccardiology.

The CHOP CVI is a newly launched, comprehensive research center spanning basic discovery through translation and clinicalimplementation for pediatric cardiovascular health. CHOP CVI is inclose partnership with many key CHOP/Penn Institutes and Centers,including the Penn Cardiovascular Institute, CHOP Cardiac Center,CHOP Center for Mitochondrial and Epigenomic Medicine, and Penn Institute for Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism.
