Position: 2026/2027 Middle School Music & Learning Support Teacher
Location: Rector

THE ROLE

The Valley School of Ligonier seeks a passionate, flexible and student-centered full-time teacher to support our program as a Part-time Middle School Music teacher and Part-time Support teacher beginning in the 2026-27 school year. Valley School’s music curriculum focuses on the development of vocal skills, music literacy, and music expression that culminates with confidence in performance skills and experience with a variety of musical styles.

The role is ideal for an educator who excels in Instrumental instruction, ensemble direction, and collaborative support of choral and theatrical productions within a close-knit independent school community. The ideal candidate will also help to support academic learning in the Middle School with our learning specialist.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop age-appropriate curriculum aligned with the mission, philosophy and Core Values of Valley School of Ligonier.
  • Collaborate with the music team to plan and lead concerts, performances, and school events.
  • Teach beginning 4th through 8th grade instrumental lessons, provide instruction with expertise in woodwinds and brass, and direct Middle School band, including rehearsal planning and performance preparation.
  • Support and collaborate with directors for the 5th-8th-grade choral and musical theater programs, directing and supporting rehearsals and coaching individuals and small groups as needed.
  • Design and teach engaging music electives for 7th and 8th-grade students, such as handbell ensemble, music technology, percussion ensemble, or other creative offerings aligned with student interest and school resources.
  • Regularly assess students’ progress by observing and evaluating performance and development of skills and provide appropriate and timely feedback to students and families.
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset and commitment to professional growth as a music teacher.
  • Support students and learning specialists with accommodations/modifications in Middle School.
  • Identify and respond to the individual students’ learning differences and create enrichment opportunities; differentiate instruction to meet the needs of various learners.
  • Attend faculty meetings and fulfill other faculty obligations.
  • Participate in the life of the school, including scheduled extra duties, school-related conferences, training, committee work, and where possible, attending after-hours events that reflect a commitment to the success of the school and the development of the whole child.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in Upper Elementary and Middle School classroom settings
  • Expertise in woodwinds and brass and experience with directing or supporting ensembles and musical productions
  • Exhibits strong organization, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to thrive in a flexible, multi-role environment that includes supporting academic learning
  • Passion for working and engaging with energetic Upper Elementary and Middle School students
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree
  • Teaching Certification in Music Education preferred
