Cheyney University invites applications for a Tenure-track Assistant Professor of English with a specialization in Applied Linguistics or Rhetoric & Composition. This position will apply raciolinguistics and sociolinguistics in their teaching. This position will teach composition courses including corequisite courses, and engage in effective teaching, professional responsibilities, scholarly and professional development, university service, and community service as outlined by the University tenure and promotion policies and procedures.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Teach composition courses including corequisite courses
* Teach or develop courses across various modalities
* Apply raciolinguistics and sociolinguistics in teaching by recognizing, accepting, and empowering diverse student languages.
* Advise students
* Complete course and program assessment
* Fulfill professional responsibilities including teaching effectiveness, scholarly growth and professional development, and service to the University, State System, and community.
* Participation in extra-curricular activities intended for recruitment, retention, and engagement of students is encouraged
Education
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in English with a specialization in Applied Linguistics and significant experience in Rhetoric & Composition OR a Ph.D. in English with a specialization in Rhetoric & Composition and significant experience in Applied Linguistics at the time of applying.
Minimum Qualifications
* Three years of experience teaching composition
* Experience applying raciolinguistics and sociolinguistics by recognizing and empowering students' diverse Englishes
* Well-versed in outcomes-based learning
* Experience employing best practices and implementing innovative approaches to teaching composition.
* Experience in developing and teaching corequisite courses
* Teaching/research background on the intersection of composition and various social issues
* Effective use of technology in the classroom
* Student-centered practice
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience in developing and teaching distance education courses
* Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations from disadvantaged groups
