Upper School STEAM Teacher

This is a full-time, exempt position within the Upper School reporting to the Head of Upper School. This position will begin on August 15, 2026.

The Shipley School seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Upper School STEAM Teacher to work with our existing team to expand and strengthen our STEAM program 9 th to 12 th Grade.

• Teach multiple sections of STEAM
• Management and upkeep of the Maker Space materials and equipment
• Collaborate with the curricular leader on the implementation of the STEAM curriculum
• Collaborate with other subjects on creating and implementing projects in the Maker Space
• Act as an advisor and be committed to playing an active role in the US

• Share a deep passion for technology and engineering
• Have experience teaching Engineering and Computer Science at the High School level. Experience with Human-Centered Design and other related STEAM fields is a plus.
• Have interest in coaching and growing our Robotics Team
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop assessments and curriculum focused on hands‑on, project‑based learning that encourages students to think critically and persevere through challenges
• Have experience creating authentic formative and summative assessments
• Other stipend opportunities including coaching and leading clubs are available
• A willingness to employ differentiated instruction to meet learners at their level of need

• Maturity, collegiality, flexibility, humor, commitment to positive growth
• Experience with code, robotics, 3D printers, lasers, and vector graphics
• An ability to implement technology in the classroom
• Excellent problem‑solving skills
• Excellent speaking and writing skills
• 1‑2 years teaching experience
• BA in science, technology, engineering, or another related field (advanced degree preferred but not required)

The Shipley School, founded in 1894, is a co‑educational, college preparatory, independent day school currently enrolling about 700 students in grades Pre‑K through 12. Located in the western suburbs of Philadelphia, the school is committed to educational excellence and dedicated to developing in each student a love of learning and compassionate participation in the world. The Middle and Upper divisions have approximately 450 students and a faculty of 90.
