Purpose

To assist with the Director of Pupil Services to develop and monitor the special education and gifted education programs for the district students. This role is responsible for overseeing compliance with state and federal regulations, guiding instructional practices, and fostering collaboration among educators, administrators, and families. By providing leadership in program development, staff training, and individualized student support, the Supervisor drives academic and social‑emotional success for all students while maintaining a relentless focus on outcomes and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Training and Experience
  • Evidence of successful experience as a special education teacher with a minimum of five years’ experience
  • Valid Special Education Supervisory or Administrative certificate
  • Valid Special Education teaching certificate (preferred)
  • Master’s degree in special education (preferred)
  • Experience with students with autism (preferred)
  • Online learning experience (preferred)
  • Documented academic success of students receiving special education services
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Ability to work effectively on a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong knowledge of intervention strategies
  • Strong command of Pennsylvania academic standards
  • Detail‑oriented and highly organized with strong analytical writing skills
  • Expert knowledge of IDEA and Pennsylvania special education regulations
  • Excels in problem‑solving and has a strong desire to provide only the highest quality services

Performance Responsibilities
  • Participate in the pre‑referral process upon request.
  • Function as a member of the support team by conducting periodic child staffing, recommending teacher strategies, supporting instructional staff in specific problem‑solving situations, and facilitating integration/mainstreaming procedures.
  • Visit and observe the operation of all Special Education classrooms on a regular basis to ascertain needs.
  • Complete formal observation of special education teachers as assigned.
  • Assist with yearly evaluation of Special Education Para‑Educators and Personal Care Assistants.
  • Recommend classroom techniques to Special Education teachers and general classroom teachers working with students who have special needs or are at‑risk.
  • Assist teachers and administrators in selecting, coordinating, and obtaining appropriate teaching materials along with assisting teachers in using the curriculum developed for the program.
  • Assist in the review and revision of IEPs, GIEPs, and MDEs as needed. Provide support to itinerant staff as needed.
  • Administer the coordination of all special education and gifted education activities including timelines, student placements, multi‑disciplinary team evaluations, and all other documentation.
  • Coordinate and monitor students with IEPs engaged in online learning to ensure free, appropriate public education (FAPE).
