Position Purpose

This position is a unique opportunity for an educator to fill the role of Art teacher in our middle school. We are seeking an innovative teacher who has a desire to work collaboratively with our Arts Department, to align the learning of skills and cultural experiences from PreK-8th grades, and who can bring their passion for the arts to our community.

Candidates should possess a love for artistic creation, art history, and diverse cultural perspectives in art. The ideal candidate is one who possesses optimism, has an affinity for middle school aged children, and who possesses a deep understanding of teaching art.

This position is a 10 month full-time position that reports directly to the Head of Middle School.

Primary Responsibility

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

Deliver a developmentally appropriate visual arts curriculum for middle school students, with differentiation to support a range of artistic abilities and experiences.

Evaluate student progress in artistic skills, creative thinking, craftsmanship, and understanding of art concepts appropriate to each grade level.

Design and implement project-based and community-based learning experiences that foster authentic artistic expression and real-world connections.

Conduct regular assessments of student learning and assign work appropriate for each grade level.

Collaborate with colleagues and actively participate in professional development, curriculum planning, and program development opportunities.

Maintain communication with students and families through conferences, email, phone calls, and updates to the classroom learning management system.

Direct classroom activities including whole-group instruction, small-group work, and individualized support.

Foster an art environment that encourages creativity, risk-taking, and respect for materials and shared spaces.

Actively engage in co-curricular and advising opportunities outside the classroom.

Promote outdoor learning, observational drawing, environmental art, and connections between art and the natural world.

Serve as an advisor to a group of middle school students, supporting their academic and social development while fostering character education.

Collaborate with arts faculty to organize exhibitions, showcases, and community-based art experiences, including potential field trips and events.

Perform other duties as assigned in support of the school’s mission and overall program.

Candidate Requirements

Teachers should have appropriate education and experience for their desired teaching position. College and Graduate work are looked on favorably when combined with a demonstrated motivation and joy for teaching children. Experience teaching in schools, youth organizations, and co-curricular spaces is preferred. An interest in thinking boldly, solving creatively, and leading compassionately in the service of children will be rewarded in our process.
