Summary
The Strings Director at Oxford Area High School is responsible for leading and overseeing the strings program, fostering a passion for music among students, and providing high-quality instruction in string instruments. The ideal candidate will create an engaging and inclusive learning environment, develop the curriculum, and collaborate with other music faculty to enhance the overall music program. This position requires a strong background in string pedagogy, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to student development.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive strings curriculum for students at various skill levels.
- Conduct regular rehearsals and individual lessons, focusing on technique, musicianship, and performance skills.
- Organize and lead performances, including concerts, recitals, and competitions, showcasing student talent.
- Collaborate with other music educators to integrate strings into the broader music program.
- Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to encourage growth and improvement.
- Maintain communication with parents and guardians regarding student performance and program activities.
- Recruit and retain students in the strings program, promoting the benefits of string education.
- Manage the strings program budget and resources, including instrument maintenance and acquisition.
- Stay current with trends in music education and string pedagogy to continually enhance the program.
- Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere that encourages creativity, teamwork, and respect among students.
Requirements
- Proven experience in teaching string instruments at the high school level.
- Strong proficiency in playing multiple string instruments, particularly violin, viola, cello, and bass.
- Knowledge of various teaching methods and curricula for string education.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to inspire and motivate students with diverse musical backgrounds and abilities.
- Commitment to fostering a positive learning environment and promoting student engagement in music.
- Familiarity with performance organization and experience in conducting ensembles.
- Valid teaching certification in music education preferred.
- Background check and clearances as required by school policy.
