Summary
Penn's Grove Middle School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Middle School Autistic Support Teacher. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The teacher will work collaboratively with students, families, and staff to promote academic and social success, ensuring that each student reaches their full potential.
Responsibilities- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with autism, tailoring instruction to meet their unique needs and learning styles.
- Create a positive and structured classroom environment that encourages student engagement, participation, and independence.
- Utilize evidence-based teaching strategies and interventions to support students in academic and social skill development.
- Collaborate with special education staff, general education teachers, and related service providers to ensure a cohesive approach to student support.
- Monitor and assess student progress regularly, adjusting instructional strategies as needed to promote growth.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress and address any concerns.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in autism education and special education.
- Foster a culture of acceptance and understanding among all students, promoting social interactions and peer relationships.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance, behavior, and IEP compliance, ensuring adherence to state and federal regulations.
- Support students during transitions between classes and activities, providing guidance and assistance as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education
- Valid PA teaching certification in Special Education
- Experience working with middle school students with autism or related disabilities is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of autism spectrum disorders and effective teaching strategies for students with ASD.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing student records and IEP documentation.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and a passion for advocating for students with special needs.
- Knowledge of assistive technology and adaptive tools for enhancing learning experiences for students with autism.
