DESCRIPTIONOF WORK
This position delivers vocational instruction in masonry and related construction trades to inmate students at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) role supports learning through hands‑on teaching, evaluation, and classroom leadership. As a Building Trade/Construction Occupation Trades Teacher, you will perform the following duties:
- Curriculum Adaptation: Adapt curriculum materials to meet student needs based on screening and placement results
- Classroom Instruction: Provide instruction across building and construction trade subjects with a focus on masonry skills
- Student Assessment: Develop and administer quizzes, tests, and evaluations to measure progress
- Record Management: Update and maintain education, attendance, inventory, and payroll records according to procedures
- Classroom Environment: Monitor behavior, enforce rules, and take corrective action to maintain a safe learning space
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full‑time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday–Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Starting salary may be non‑negotiable in some cases.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Education equivalent to high school graduation and two years wage‑earning experience beyond the completed apprenticeship period in the specified parenthetical;
or - If there is no approved apprenticeship period for the specified parenthetical, education equivalent to high school graduation and three years of wage‑earning experience in the specified parenthetical.
- Please Note: The specified parenthetical for this posting is Masonry. The specific apprenticeship period for this parenthetical is 2 years.
Special Requirements:
- You must be in possession of or eligible for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Certificate I or II for the specified parenthetical;
or - You must be in possession of or eligible for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Intern Certificate for the specified parenthetical;
or - You must be eligible for a Pennsylvania Department of Education Emergency Certificate for the specified parenthetical.
Other Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
