Job Description
School Police Officer – Full Time
This is a 10 month (210 Day) position.
The School Police Officer (Act 44 Article XIII-C Section 1301-c) is a law officer employed by a school district. The Officer is appointed by the Court of Common Pleas and authorized to exercise the powers of the municipality police within the school property and serve at any designated school as directed by the Superintendent, Chief of Police, or Director of School and Public Safety.
The Coatesville Area School District is a qualifying employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
Education and Experience- Preferred minimum of 3 years’ experience.
- NASRO Basic School Resource Officer Course of instruction or equivalent (not required).
- Must meet Act 120 annual training requirements, including firearms qualification.
- Maintain minimum 12 hours of mandatory in‑service training and current CPR/AED/First Aid Certification.
- Complete additional department training per SOPs.
- Adhere to Pennsylvania laws and school district safety practices.
- Stand for long periods, walk up and down stairs, and rapidly respond to emergencies.
- Maintain and certify weapons use and restraint procedures, use of force, JNET/CLEAN access.
- Work closely with school principals; meet at least once per week.
- Refer students and families to appropriate agencies.
- Attend conferences with students, parents, and faculty regarding law enforcement and crime prevention.
- Teach age‑appropriate safety curriculum to students.
- Abide by school board policies and coordinate with the Chief of Police/Director of School and Public Safety.
Generally Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., with varying shifts.
Eligibility- Must provide mandatory clearances:
Act 34 (State Criminal Clearance), Act 151 (Child Abuse), Act 114 (FBI Clearance).
Full‑Time
Salary$40,000 to $60,000 for the 10‑month full‑time position.
