Job Type: Full-time

Schedule: 7.50 Hours/Day (7:15 AM-2:45 PM) Monday-Friday 185 Days/Year

Minimum Salary: $18.90

Purpose of Position

The para educators assigned to special education classes or programs provide instructional support to the teacher (instructional leader) and students and are under the general supervision of the Program Supervisor of Special Education.

Knowledge & Skill Requirements
  • Education:

    High School Diploma or High School Equivalency
  • Credential of Competency for Special Education Paraeducators through the PA Department of Education (or willing to complete within 6 months of employment). Submittal within 30 days of hire.
  • Postsecondary requirements: at least 2 years of postsecondary study with minimum of 48 credit hours. Transcript within 30 days of employment.
  • Associate degree or higher. Degree or transcripts within 30 days of employment.
  • Rigorous standard of quality as demonstrated through an approved form of assessment within 6 months of employment.
  • Staff development: 20 hours each school year related to position.
  • Verbal communication skills and ability to follow directions.
  • Computer skills: basic data entry, internet/email usage, word processing.
  • Certification:
    Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), Safe Crisis Management Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention (SCM) or Quality Behavioral Solutions:
    Safety‑Care Crisis Prevention (QBS) as directed by program needs.
Essential

Physical Requirements
  • Strength and ability to lift and/or assist in lifting students ranging in age from pre‑school to twenty‑one and any assistive appliances (e.g., wheelchair).
  • Ability to physically restrain students in emotional stress using CPI, SCM, or QBS methods, as needed.
  • Physical endurance to run/sprint after a child and help a learner off the floor if they drop to the floor on their own power.
