BBYO Jewish Educator

A role located in Perlman Camp, this position involves teaching daily sessions and supporting teens in Jewish learning throughout the program.

Perlman Summer is a 6‑week program that includes the International Leadership Training Conference (ILTC) and International Kallah. ILTC focuses on developing leadership skills for teens aspiring to serve as regional BBYO position‑holders. Kallah is a Jewish learning and spirituality institute that inspires teens to explore their Jewish identities.

Compensation is on a scale and is based on prior experience and educational background: $6200‑$7000.

The educator is responsible for teaching daily sessions and preparing material on assigned topic areas with guidance from other staff. Responsibilities include supporting teens in Shabbat planning, offering insight and content for evening and special programs, and fostering a pluralistic learning culture  role requires strong Judaic knowledge and background, experience teaching Jewish content, proficiency in Jewish prayer, values, holidays, and rituals, and the ability to motivate and work with teens as positive role models.

• Guiding teens to lead and participate in daily prayer experiences in creative and novel ways
• Providing guidance for teens preparing for Shabbat services, rituals, programs, and activities
• Representing and teaching BBYO Culture, Jewish Values, Leadership, Judaic programming, and Jewish identity
• Inspiring teens to embrace their Jewish journey
• Promoting and exemplifying BBYO’s pluralistic commitment
• Assisting with evening programs when needed
• Collaborating with leadership staff and counselors to integrate the Educational Framework into overall programming
• Working with song leaders to ensure a thoughtful and inspiring Shabbat atmosphere
• For ILTC: creating and executing Jewish enrichment sessions, daily rituals, and Shabbat, in coordination with the Lead Jewish Educator
• For Kallah: creating and executing Jewish enrichment sessions, daily rituals, and Shabbat, in coordination with the Lead Jewish Educator

• Ensuring participants are on time for all meals, classes, and events
• Attending and facilitating assigned activities as needed
• Being vigilant about health issues and participants’ overall well‑being
• “Being there” for participants to answer questions and provide support
• Working as part of the overall staff team
• Creating a community and a positive, enjoyable experience for participants
• Enforcing all COVID camp guidelines

• Educators will be compensated $250 for completing pre‑work and attending required meetings
