Professional Math Tutor – The Chaiken Center for Student Success seeks a dynamic tutor to provide tutoring in Math (Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry, Calculus, Statistics) to undergraduate students. Approval of remote and hybrid work is not guaranteed regardless of work location.
Job Duties- Provides individual Math tutoring for students.
- Assigns practice exercises as needed.
- Mentors students in completion and review of class assignments.
- Assists students in preparing for exams.
- Assists students in developing greater self-directed learning strategies.
- Creates and maintains a Math-focused Canvas course shell which will serve as a repository of Math resources tutors can use as they work with their students.
- Monitors scheduling and documentation through Starfish.
- Maintains detailed records:
Starfish Outcome Notes, Client Report Forms, Satisfaction Surveys, and other assessment measures. - Creates and compiles Math-focused instructional and marketing materials.
- Develops and delivers workshops, presentations, and online resources for students on a range of Math topics.
- Provides administrative support for the Chaiken Center for Student Success.
- Serves as a liaison to academic departments and related services.
- Performs intentional outreach and interacts directly with under-served and under-resourced students.
- Leads/coordinates special projects or initiatives as assigned.
- Collaborates with professors to ensure that tutoring complements classroom instruction.
- A Master's degree (preferred) in Math or a related discipline, 3+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Understanding of and familiarity with effective assessment practices focusing on academic support services.
- Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
- Innovation and creativity in program development.
- Proven presentation, group facilitation, and teaching skills.
- Extensive ability to collaborate and develop relationships with a wide range of constituents.
- Ability to work with a diverse student population.
- Outstanding teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work late afternoon/early evening and, on occasion, weekend hours.
