Lead Instructional Designer (AI Learning & Development)
Location: University Park, PA (Hybrid)
Duration: 12-Month Contract (Potential Extension)
Schedule: Hybrid, with onsite presence required approximately 1-2 times per month.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Lead Instructional Designer to create engaging, scalable learning experiences focused on AI literacy and digital learning initiatives. This role will lead the design and development of interactive, audience-specific learning solutions for diverse learner groups while collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to expand and enhance a growing learning ecosystem.
The ideal candidate combines strategic thinking, instructional design expertise, and hands-on development skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Key Responsibilities
Learning Design & Development
- Design and develop interactive asynchronous learning modules and digital learning experiences.
- Create modular, reusable content that can be adapted for multiple audiences and learning needs.
- Translate learning objectives into engaging experiences using scenario-based learning, branching interactions, multimedia, and learner-centered design.
- Partner with multimedia designers and subject matter experts to deliver high-quality learning solutions.
- Support the development of learning pathways, certificates, and credential-based programs.
- Participate in needs assessments, content planning, and learning strategy discussions.
- Recommend innovative approaches to learning design, technology, and content delivery.
- Coordinate project activities across instructional designers, SMEs, and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with project managers to ensure timely delivery of learning initiatives.
- Stay current on trends in AI, instructional design, and learning technologies.
- Proven experience designing and developing interactive eLearning and asynchronous learning experiences.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating instructional design expertise and creative problem-solving.
- Experience leading or coordinating projects in collaborative or matrixed environments.
- Proficiency with tools such as Articulate Storyline, Rise 360, and enterprise LMS platforms (Canvas, Cornerstone, or similar).
- Hands-on familiarity with AI tools and their application in learning design.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
- Master's degree in Instructional Design, Learning Experience Design, Educational Technology, or a related field.
- Experience developing AI literacy, workforce development, or technology-focused learning programs.
- Knowledge of credentialing pathways, microlearning, or competency-based learning models.
- Comfortable working in evolving environments with shifting priorities.
- Strategic thinker with strong execution skills.
- Creative, learner-focused, and highly collaborative.
- Able to make sound decisions and drive projects forward with minimal direction.
