To assist students in learning subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible citizens. During the regular school year, working hours are in accordance with the established collective bargaining agreement. Each teacher will have a primary building assignment. Teachers direct Para Educators, as needed.
MajorDuties & Responsibilities
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal laws and policies.
- Strive to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives. District priorities are identified in the Strategic Plan and targeted by the Board of Education annually.
- Assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of curriculum and in the selection of materials and resources to implement instructional program.
- Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals, and in harmony with the goals establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicates these objectives to students.
- Assist the student in making a realistic assessment of his/her abilities and in establishing educational goals in keeping with these abilities.
- Evaluate academic progress of students, keeps appropriate records, provides specific and timely feedback and prepares progress reports.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for Para Educator(s) and volunteer(s) and collaborate with the principal/supervisor regarding their job performance.
- Attend and participate in all staff meetings designated by the superintendent, principal, director, or department/curriculum chairperson.
- Participate in committees, activities, and events beyond the classroom that support the total school program and create a better school or district for the students and teachers.
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
- Plan a program of student that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Identify needs, make appropriate referrals and assist in development of strategies for IEP preparation.
- Prepare for assigned classes and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor.
- Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in a fair and just manner.
