Long-Term Substitute Middle School Science

The Shipley School seeks a qualified candidate for the position of long‑term substitute teacher in the Science department during the period of August through November, reporting to the Head of Middle School.

• Teach four sections of science.
• Teach one section of STEAM.
• Serve as an advisor and be actively involved in Middle School activities.
• Collaborate with colleagues.

• Have a BA in Science or a related field (advanced degree preferred but not required).
• Share a deep passion for science.
• Have an excellent background in teaching physical science.
• Collaborate with colleagues to develop assessments and curriculum focused on hands‑on, inquiry‑based learning that encourages critical and scientific thinking.
• Have experience creating authentic formative and summative projects and lab‑based assessments.
• Be comfortable using technology and incorporating it into teaching.
• Be comfortable in a lab and Maker Space environment.

• Maturity, collegiality, flexibility, and a sense of humor.
• Excellent speaking and writing skills.
• Experience in teaching.
• Appreciation for the unique qualities of typical young adolescents in middle school settings.
• Willingness to employ differentiated instruction to meet learners at their level of need.
