Central York School District (CYSD) is seeking a full‑time Reading Specialist to join the Stony Brook Elementary School instructional team for the 2026–2027 school year. Work closely with students to help them achieve grade‑level reading skills. Increase reading capabilities of all students through effective reading programs, literacy materials and resources, and ongoing collaboration with classroom teachers, parents and school administrators.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Provide ongoing literacy support for struggling students.
- Consult frequently with teachers on matters relating to reading and skill instruction.
- Assist teachers with diagnosing reading strengths and weaknesses of students and supplement with appropriate techniques and materials.
- Assist classroom teachers by providing additional materials and/or modeling of strategies.
- Work with Instructional and Title I assistants to facilitate the coordination of the reading program as it pertains to the total curriculum.
- Provide guidance to parents through IST meetings, parent workshops, conferences, etc.
- Evaluate literacy needs and collaborate with teachers and the leadership team to interpret assessment data in order to increase student achievement.
- Work with classroom teachers, literacy coaches and district personnel to coordinate reading instruction designed to meet the individual needs of students.
- Work with classroom teachers to monitor student progress and develop strategies and specific instructional techniques.
- Consult with Special Education and ESL teachers to support instruction.
- Assist in the evaluation of ongoing reading programs.
- Make budgetary recommendations such as textbook selection, concept development and supplementary materials to further the development of study.
- Provide continuous and systematic procedures and opportunities for professional growth through staff development for teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators and other appropriate support personnel through demonstrations, effective modeling through co‑teaching, in‑service courses, workshops, seminars, conference reports and teacher literacy training.
- Provide for his/her own professional growth by attending demonstrations, in‑service courses, workshops, seminars, conferences, etc. as approved by building administrators and assistant superintendent.
- Communicate with the leadership team regarding literacy issues.
- Attend department meetings, academy meetings, team meetings and/or IST meetings, as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the leadership team or supervisor.
- Appropriate PA Certification for area of assignment required.
- Pedagogical skills necessary to develop the instructional program.
- Must have obtained (or will obtain) valid PA Criminal, PA Child Abuse and FBI Criminal History Background Checks within the last twelve (12) months.
Full‑time position, 192 days per year.
