Position: Teacher, Special Education (LS)
Location: Fort Washington

Job Title

Primary functions include the classroom instruction of students following district curriculum and procedures.

Reporting Relationships

Reports directly to the building Principal. Works cooperatively with other administrators, supervisors, staff, parents and students to perform job responsibilities as outlined.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The employee will be required to perform any other position-related duties requested by the supervisor and/or Principal.

  • Follow a continuous program of curriculum development
  • Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning
  • Use relevant technology and materials to support and differentiate instruction
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
  • Prepare classroom for class activities
  • Observe and evaluate student's performance and development
  • Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments
  • Be aware of new materials, methodologies, philosophies and innovation, using those which suit the needs of the individual student
  • Assist in planning student activities, programs, and field trips
  • Attend required meetings and complete required reports
  • Consult with parents and other involved personnel concerning each student's intellectual, social, emotional and physical development
  • Create and maintain an environment conducive to learning
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor or designee
Education/Experience Requirements

To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill and/or ability necessary.   • Bachelor's degree
  • Valid PA certification in Special Ed, K-12
  • Proficiency in the use of technology for individual communication and research
  • Proficiency in presentation of technology to enhance small and large student group information & demonstration sessions
  • Possess effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interface diplomatically with professional contacts

Physical Demands
  • Use of hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls
  • Sit and occasionally be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel and crouch
  • Have the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Required to work under periods of stress due to the level of the position responsibility
  • Exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses.
  • Occasional exposure to a variety of weather conditions.
  • Exposure to heated/air conditioned and ventilated facilities.
  • Exposure to a building in which a variety of chemical substances are used for cleaning, instruction and/or operation

  • Current Act 34, Act 114 and Act 151 clearances
  • School Health Form (including physical and TB test)
  • PDE Form 6004 and Act 168 disclosure forms
