Special Education Paraprofessional
This position is responsible for providing assistance to teaching staff by supporting students with disabilities. This person's goal is to assist students with disabilities so that they may achieve academic success within the special education and regular education settings.
Responsibilities- Work with special education or with regular education classroom teacher to assist students who are assigned due to special needs
- Facilitate students' participation in regular and special education classes
- Read tests and assignments and assist with homework, organization, etc. during study halls and activity periods
- Assist with instruction by following teacher developed plans
- Collect academic and/or behavioral data as requested by teacher
- Positively interact with all students, including regular education students
- The assistant shall assume any other duties and responsibilities as assigned
- Follow district standards of legal and ethical conduct
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to work with a variety of students and adults within the school setting.
- Ability to speak clearly and distinctly
- Auditory acuity to be able to use telephones and interact with students and other staff
- Visual acuity to read correspondences, computer screen
- Ability to work as a member of a team
- Must be cooperative, congenial and service-oriented
- Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions
- Must appropriately handle confidential information
- Often sitting at desk or standing
- Moderate lifting from 15 to 30 pounds
- Some carrying - up to 30 pounds
- Manual dexterity to use office equipment
- Minimum of High School Diploma/GED
- First Aid and CPR Certified and CAPE certified within 1 year of hire; or
- 48+ College Credits
- Act 34 Criminal History Background Check
- Act 151 Child Abuse History Clearance
- Federal Criminal History Record
- Physical examination
- Valid driver's license
- In other respects, the successful candidate must be eligible for employment according to the provisions contained in Section 1209 of the Public School Code of 1949, as amended.
- Meets established criteria for Highly Qualified status as a paraprofessional
