Summary

The Director of Alumni Engagement will foster a culture of philanthropy and build a diverse, accessible and sustained pipeline for next generation alumni engagement and giving. The role will focus on fostering engagement and increasing philanthropy for alumni and other key constituent groups of Gwynedd Mercy University community. This includes developing and executing a strategy to increase alumni engagement and philanthropy, with a focus on affinity, identity, career related, mission-based and volunteer engagement and programs, both in person and online.

Duties and Responsibilities

Core functions include:

  • Develop and execute a strategy to increase alumni engagement and participation, including managing alumni communications, events, volunteer opportunities and other strategic alumni engagement opportunities, as appropriate.
  • Build a culture of volunteerism and manage opportunities for alumni to meaningfully engage and volunteer with UA, the university at large and with each other.
  • Develop, execute and promote career, industry, and professional development related engagement opportunities and resources for alumni at large and/or within appropriate alumni segments and populations.
  • Create content and execute communications including e‑newsletters, social media campaigns, welcome communications to new alumni, special communications on behalf of the President’s Office, philanthropic spotlights, and communications celebrating alumni achievements.
  • Design and lead a process to acknowledge and celebrate alumni achievements, increase alumni contact updates and collect alumni information.
  • Track, manage and analyze role and industry related data to lead to data informed and constituent centric decision making.
  • Support UA’s events, priorities and key strategic initiatives.
  • Serve as the University’s main point of contact for alumni inquiries and resources.
  • Other duties as assigned and necessary.
Required Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree with five or more years of progressively increasing responsibility in the field or related experience, preferably in the development field in the areas of alumni relations, volunteer management, annual giving, or communications.
  • Demonstrated understanding of alumni engagement, volunteer management, and annual giving.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to produce clear, concise and detail-oriented communications; storyteller capable of inspiring and motivating an audience.
  • Experience with crowdfunding and annual giving campaigns and software.
  • Forward-thinking and be highly and independently motivated and able to meet deadlines and goals; ability to work in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to handle multiple and varied tasks independently, while also working collaboratively in projects involving multiple users and departments.
  • Skill in dealing with people, diplomacy, tact, discretion, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Experienced in use of technology, including social media platforms.
  • Willingness and ability to travel locally and work evening and weekend hours in addition to regular weekday.
  • Commitment to the mission and core values of Gwynedd Mercy University.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in higher education, Mercy institution or catholic schools.
  • Experience with the Raiser’s Edge NXT, Give Campus, or other digital engagement tools.
