Elementary School Teacher
Grade 5 teaching position available for an enthusiastic and engaging English/Language and Religion teacher. This responsibility would require a practicing Catholic for teaching religion. Basic job description: teach pupils at the elementary level basic academic, social, and other formative skills in keeping with the school's Catholic character and Gospel values.
Responsibilities include establishing and enforcing rules and procedures to maintain order among students, observing and evaluating students' performance, preparing materials and classrooms for class activities, adapting teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests, planning and conducting activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time, instructing students individually and in groups, establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, assigning and grading class work and homework, reading books to entire classes or small groups, preparing, administering, and grading tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress, conferring with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems, maintaining accurate and complete student records, preparing students for later grades by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks, guiding and counseling students with adjustment and/or academic problems, preparing and implementing remedial programs for students requiring extra help, preparing objectives and outlines for courses of study, providing a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulating, and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play, enforcing administration policies and rules governing students, conferring with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons that promote learning and follow approved curricula, meeting with other professionals to discuss individual students' needs and progress, using computers, audiovisual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations, preparing for assigned classes, and showing written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisors, collaborating with other teachers and administrators to develop, evaluate, and revise elementary school programs, preparing reports on students and activities as required by the administration, instructing and monitoring students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage, organizing and leading activities designed to promote physical, mental, and social development, attending professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence, planning and supervising class projects, field trips, guest speaker visits, and other experiential activities, organizing and labeling materials, and displaying students' work, attending staff meetings and serving on committees as required, administering standardized ability and achievement tests and interpreting the results to determine students' strengths and areas of need, supervising, evaluating, and planning assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers, involving parent volunteers and older students in children's activities to facilitate their participation in focused, complex play, performing administrative duties, selecting, storing, ordering, issuing, and inventorying classroom equipment, materials, and supplies, providing disabled students with assistive devices, supportive technology, and assistance accessing facilities such as restrooms, sponsoring extracurricular activities such as clubs, student organizations, and academic contests, and preparing and supervising students for Mass and other sacramental preparation.
