High School Band Director
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Music Education or related field (Master's preferred).
Valid Pennsylvania Instructional I or II Certificate in Music PK-12.
Minimum 3 years of successful experience directing a secondary instrumental music program, including marching band.
Demonstrated ability in instrumental pedagogy, drill design, and musical arranging preferred.
Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License.
Job Goal:
The Band Director is responsible for the overall leadership, coordination, and development of the high school instrumental music program, with primary emphasis on the marching band. This position provides musical and instructional direction, fosters student growth and school spirit, and ensures high standards of artistic performance and professionalism.
Essential Functions:
Direct and manage all aspects of the high school marching band, including show design, music selection, drill coordination, rehearsals, and performances.
Supervise and collaborate with assistant directors, staff, and instructional personnel.
Attend and oversee performances at athletic events, concert and pep bands, parades, competitions, and community performances.
Coordinate with the Music Department on program continuity from middle to high school.
Develop and maintain a positive, inclusive, and disciplined rehearsal environment.
Prepare students for adjudications, district and state festivals, and honor ensembles.
Manage program finances, budgets, inventory, and fundraising in coordination with boosters and the administration.
Participate as a non-voting member of the Band Booster Association, collaborating all activities with Shippensburg Area School District.
Communicate regularly with students, parents, and school officials regarding schedules, expectations, and events.
Ensure compliance with all school district, PIAA, and PDE regulations.
Maintain instruments, uniforms, and equipment; schedule repairs and replacements as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Terms of Employment:
Compensation and conditions of employment as per agreement between Shippensburg Area Education Association and Shippensburg Area School District.
