We are seeking a tech‑savvy and creative individual to join our summer camp team as a Technology & Makerspace Instructor. This role is ideal for someone passionate about innovation, hands‑on learning, and introducing students to emerging technologies such as 3D printing and digital design.

Job Duties
  • Facilitate engaging, hands‑on learning experiences in a makerspace environment for campers of varying skill levels.
  • Introduce and support students in the use of 3D printing technologies, including setup, troubleshooting, and production.
  • Guide campers in using design software, including beginner‑friendly platforms and more advanced tools such as Tinkercad, to create original projects.
  • Assist with the setup and use of 3D printing applications and tools (e.g., Bambu Studio or similar slicing/printing software).
  • Encourage creativity, problem‑solving, and collaboration through project‑based learning.
  • Maintain organization and safety standards within the makerspace.
  • Provide individualized support and adapt instruction based on student experience levels.
  • Assist with creating and implementing program curriculum and lessons, managing supplies, and supervising minors participating in programs.
  • Collaborate with the Youth Program Director, student counselors, and Continuing Education staff to create an inviting, enjoyable, and educational environment for students.
  • Attend team meetings as expected by the Youth Program Director.
Requirements And Qualifications
  • Experience working in a makerspace, STEM program, or similar educational environment.
  • Familiarity with 3D printing hardware and software, including slicing tools (e.g., Bambu Studio or comparable platforms).
  • Experience with 3D design tools, particularly Tinkercad; experience with more advanced CAD programs is a plus.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and comfort working with technology.
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills are required.
  • Must be outgoing, work well with children, have strong customer‑service skills, and be a self‑starter.
  • For most openings, an advanced degree in an appropriate discipline, from an accredited institution, is required.
  • Prior teaching experience is strongly preferred.
  • Summer instructors are needed for daytime in‑person programming from Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additionally, they must attend a one‑day, in‑person staff orientation at Penn State Abington, scheduled between June 15 and June 18, prior to the start of the camp sessions.
  • Applicants must apply online and submit a resume including any teaching experience, and a cover letter stating the types of programs they are interested in teaching.
  • Instructors will be required to attend a mandatory staff orientation prior to the camp season.
Preferred Candidate Profile
  • The ideal candidate is innovative, patient, and enthusiastic about teaching technology to youth. They should be comfortable guiding beginners while also supporting more advanced learners in developing their own designs and projects.
