Position Summary
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The position supports the administration of the Academic Success Center, a unit focused on tutoring, supplemental instruction, and academic coaching. This position specifically would provide oversight to academic coaching as well as meet individually with students by appointment as an academic coach. Additionally, this position would coordinate non-STEM content tutoring, including training and supervision for these tutors. This position would also assist to coordinate the Back on Track program, a retention focused mentoring program for students on academic probation.
OUTCOME:
Increased attention to academic coaching and tutoring in non-STEM disciplines to support academic success and retention for students.
Essential Functions
- Oversee Academic Coaching, including serving as an Academic Coach as needed (25%)
- Coordinate and oversee writing tutors and content peer tutors outside of STEM courses (20%)
- Assist the Director to oversee the Back on Track program(15%)
- Assist managing the administration and operation of the Academic Success Center (15%)
- Create material and present at workshops for campus community members (10%)
- Support and assist with tutor hiring and training (10%)
- Other duties as assigned by the Director, Academic Success Center. (5%)
- Master’s degree in education or related field (i.e., higher education, counseling, student development)
- At least two years of experience working in academic or learning support in higher education
- 1
-3 years’ experience supervising students and/or staff - 1
-3 years’ experience in one or more of the following areas:tutoring, supplemental instruction, academic workshops, and/or academic success coaching
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with various stakeholders at the college
- Commitment to working with students from diversesocio-economic, cultural, ethnic, and linguistic backgrounds
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills; special interest in helping students in an academic environment
- Ability to prioritize multiple assignments
- Excellent computer skills including familiarity with Windows environment, Microsoft Office products, and other software
- Excellent organization skills
- Work collaboratively across the campus community, divisions,schools, and departments
- Flexibility with hours: some evenings, or weekend hours may be required.
