Position: Paraprofessional (Teacher Assistant)

Paraprofessional (Teacher Assistant)

Experience
: 0‑2 years.

Education / Certification
:
High school diploma required. Candidates may become highly qualified by completing the CIU
20 assessment at no cost. The assessment schedule can be arranged via the Office of the Director of Special Education.

Salary
:

  • $25,895.00 – High School Diploma with Highly Qualified Distinction
  • $27,535.00 – Associate’s Degree or 48 college credits
  • $30,266.00 – Bachelor’s Degree
The salary schedule reflects a 188‑day work year. New employees who begin after the first day of the school year will have their salary prorated. Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning special activities and events to make learning engaging for students.
  • Support the teacher in accomplishing curriculum objectives and goals.
  • Help meet the individual needs of students with special needs in the Autistic Support Program.
  • Provide assistance with self‑help skills, feeding, and personal hygiene as required.
  • Assist teams in developing activities that promote students’ interests, needs, and development goals in a safe and positive environment.
  • Maintain accurate student and classroom records with attention to detail.
  • Respond positively to supervision and suggestions for improvement.
Qualifications
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrate patience, understanding, and excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with staff and students.
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Basic computer skills; experience with Google Suite, medical billing, email, web‑based education software, and virtual meeting environments is beneficial.
  • Physical capacity to stand, bend, stoop, sit, lift, reach, and communicate; able to lift up to 40 lbs. alone or assist students as needed.
  • Ability to conduct a safety restraint protocol following appropriate training and certification.
  • Experience in education, special education, or related fields such as teaching assistant, special education, preschool work, daycare, medical assistance, CNA, residential treatment, rehabilitation, case management, or youth services is highly desirable.
