Vocational Teacher - Industrial Arts/Building & Trades

This position is responsible for the instruction of educational programs and curricula for exceptional students. The Industrial Arts/Building & Trades Teacher designs and implements a program of study that prepares students for industry standards, experiences, and certification. The Industrial Arts/Building & Trades Teacher collaborates with members of the instructional team in the planning and implementation of behavioral and academic interventions and supports to ensure students receive a quality educational program.

The Industrial Arts/Building & Trades Teacher manages the para educators in the classroom and reports to the Principal.

Responsibilities include assessing and evaluating students' skills regarding appropriate vocational courses, planning, developing, and implementing individualized and group instruction and therapeutic behavior management, managing and coordinating programs of study, promoting contemporary programs to meet economic and workforce needs, driving business partnerships in the field, coordinating career planning activities, completing written reports, plans, and records, planning and facilitating instruction with adaptations, supervising and setting clear expectations for para educator staff, managing the classroom environment, engaging in staff development trainings, adhering to teacher expectations, communicating regularly with parents or guardians, adhering to all PHMC and Fairwold Academy policies and procedures, and performing related duties as assigned.

Performance requirements include establishing appropriate assessments and providing guidance on suitable vocational career planning, managing and coordinating programs of study, building partnership with at least one external business, participating in IEP meetings, planning, developing, and implementing a weekly lesson guide, delivering consistent instruction, managing a safe and orderly classroom environment, managing student data, assessing student learning, managing para educator staff, adhering to behavioral incident management and reporting protocols, ensuring effective management and instructional delivery of the classroom, ensuring student point sheets include positive and accurate daily feedback, providing support to the school community, engaging in professional development events, engaging in professional school events, maintaining compliance with job performance and conduct standards, and performing other related duties and special projects.

Physical demands and work environment include routine school environment, involvement in de-escalating student behaviors, potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens, transporting students, ability to climb stairs and walk on uneven terrain, ability to move rapidly, physical capacity to lift and position students, ability to utilize office equipment, ability to independently travel outside of school hours, and ability to independently utilize routine office equipment.

Qualifications include one of the following teaching certificates in Pennsylvania, minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, 5 years of experience in building trades, construction, industrial arts, or a related field, 1 year of experience required in working with a special needs population in a school setting, and an understanding of emotional and behavioral disorders, mental health issues, autism, developmental delays, and intellectual disabilities.
