Position Purpose

For the 2026-27 school year, Montgomery School is seeking a dynamic and engaging Lower School Spanish educator. The teacher should be creative in the use of age-appropriate techniques and technologies, possess strong organizational skills, and model energetic engagement with young children.

This is a 10-month position that reports directly to the Lower School Head.

Primary Responsibility

Deliver an outstanding Spanish elementary education program that is developmentally appropriate and engaging for students. Partner with colleagues and support families to build a strong foundation in Spanish.

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

  • Teaching a classroom cohort of elementary students, employing multiple forms of assessment, student differentiation, and backward curriculum design
  • Establishing an effective classroom management system and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible
  • Works with the World Language Department in teaching a strong foreign language program that prepares students for continued success in the Middle School Spanish program.
  • Creatively enhances the current Lower School Spanish curriculum. Past program pedagogy has used the comprehensible input method and style, as well as TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling).
  • Possesses solid Spanish speaking skills
  • Integrates technology into the Spanish curriculum (SMART Board, etc.)
  • Evaluates student progress in comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing the Spanish language in relation to the level being taught
  • Maintain contact with students and parents through teacher conferences, phone calls, email, and regular updates to the classroom Canvas page, as well as written semester and conference reports, which both occur twice a year. Be available to meet with students and/or parents before and after school as needed or requested in school or virtually
  • Actively promote outdoor learning, character education, and student focus on authentic engagement
  • Collaborate with colleagues and positively participate in professional development, adult learning initiatives, and program development opportunities afforded by the school
  • Other duties as assigned, which support the mission and high functioning of the school
  • Teachers should have appropriate education and experience for their desired teaching position. College and Graduate work are looked on favorably when combined with a demonstrated motivation and joy for teaching young children. Experience teaching and leading in schools, youth organizations, and co-curricular spaces is preferred. An interest in thinking boldly, solving creatively, and leading compassionately in the service of children will be rewarded in our process.
