Special Education Teacher

Requirements for the Position:

• Proper Pennsylvania certification in a special education area
• Minimum requirement - B.S. or B.A. degree
• Satisfactory completion of student teaching
• The individual's credentials are in compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations governing individuals functioning in the capacity of this position.

Major Responsibilities:

• Plan and deliver instruction
• Design, implement and revise instructional programs based on student needs
• Encourage all students to learn well

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Teach the subjects required in the curriculum and planned course documents of the school district
• Prepare and submit written lesson plans as a basis for the day's activities
• Attend IST, MDT, and IEP meetings or conferences at the request of the principal or special education supervisor
• Prepare, implement and revise student Individual Educational Plans (IEPs)
• Coordinate related services and integration of special and regular classroom activities
• Plan for and direct support personnel including instructional aides and volunteers
• Maintain and report student progress, and child tracking information
• Participate in appropriate due process procedures
• Attend all faculty and building meetings
• Participate in all inservice and training activities
• Be familiar with district policies and execute said policies as may be required and in the manner required by the school's administration
• Encourage and support parental involvement
• Plan and initiate parent-teacher conferences when desirable
• Contribute to the development of the annual instructional budget
• Perform other duties assigned by the Building Principal and/or Special Education Supervisor
