Position Description

The Testing and Assistive Technology Coordinator, reporting to the Director of the Office of Disability and Access (ODA), manages theODA’s Testing Center and provides oversight of assistive technology for students with disabilities. The coordinator will manage the Testing Center, including the receipt and delivery of exams,monitoring the testing environment, supervising student proctor sand implementing testing accommodations. The coordinator will provide support using assistive technology to ensure that students with disabilities have equal access to the University’s academic environments.

The coordinator will evaluate, procure, implement,and train students on assistive technology solutions. The coordinator serves as a campus consultant on digital accessibility.

The Testing and Assistive Technology Coordinator position serves students in traditional undergraduate degree programs, graduate programs and flex programs.

Position Responsibilities Testing Responsibilities :
  • Responsible for all aspects of daily operation of the Testing Center ensuring that it has adequate supplies and equipment to effectively run while providing the necessary conditions to meet students' accommodations and maintain academic integrity
  • Ongoing recruitment, selection, training, and supervision oftesting proctors for the Testing Center during the academic year
  • Implementation and oversight of WCOnline to set up testing appointments for students in traditional undergraduate degree programs
  • Ongoing communication with faculty regarding the delivery andreturn of testing materials
  • Coordinates, proctors, and implements testing accommodations for undergraduate students approved for disability accommodations
  • Coordinates and proctors exams for undergraduate students whohave missed their scheduled course exam time
  • Provides ongoing monitoring of the Testing Center to ensure academic honesty and integrity
  • Possesses a keen awareness of special education strategies appropriate for supporting students with disabilities including howto restate questions, define non tested vocabulary, and implementde-escalation strategies
  • Completes Testing Center Incident Reports for academic dishonesty events
Assistive Technology Responsibilities:
  • Provides one-on-one and group training for students on specialized software and hardware (e.g., screen readers,text-to-speech, speech-to-text, note-taking technologies).
  • Monitors and tracks student progress with assigned technology,providing ongoing technical support and troubleshooting throughout the academic year.
  • Oversees the conversion of academic materials (textbooks,articles, exams, PDFs) into accessible formats such as E-text,audio, large print, or Braille.
  • Ensures timely delivery of alternative formats to students prior to or at the start of the academic term.
  • Supports ODA’s partnership with faculty and the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology (CTLT) to proactively design accessible course materials and navigate accessibility features within Eastern’s Learning Management System, Brightspace.
  • Supports ODA’s delivery of workshops to the campus community on Universal Design for Learning (UDL), digital accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1-2.2), and Assistive Technology awareness.
  • Manages the Office of Disability and Access’ Assistive Technology Resources, including the inventory, maintenance, and upgrading of software licenses and hardware.
  • Researches emerging trends in assistive technology and recommend strategic institutional purchases.
  • Maintains accurate records of student technology usage and alternative format requests in compliance with FERPA and institutional policies.
Other Responsibilities :
  • Attends ODA staff meetings
  • Attends professional development activities relating to testing and assistive technology
  • Remains knowledgeable about best practices in the field and implements changes to facilities and procedures when necessary tomeet best practice standards
  • Prepares weekly, monthly, and annual reports as requested
Status :
  • Full-time, salaried, 40 hours per week, 9 months per year(school year: mid August to mid May)
