Reading Specialist

Penn's Grove Middle School is seeking a dedicated and passionate Reading Specialist to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering a love for reading and improving literacy skills among our students. This full-time position requires a dynamic individual who can assess student needs, develop tailored instructional strategies, and collaborate with teachers and parents to enhance reading proficiency across all grade levels.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments to identify students' reading levels and literacy needs.
  • Develop and implement individualized and group reading intervention plans.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate effective reading strategies into the curriculum.
  • Provide professional development and support to teachers on best practices in reading instruction.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress through regular assessments and adjust instruction as needed.
  • Create a positive and engaging learning environment that encourages a love for reading.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and strategies for supporting reading at home.
  • Stay current with research and trends in literacy education and apply this knowledge to improve instructional practices.
  • Participate in school committees and contribute to the overall mission of Penn's Grove Middle School.
  • Support students in developing critical thinking and comprehension skills through various reading materials and activities.
  • Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in Education
    • Valid PA reading specialist (PK-12) certification
    • Proven experience as a Reading Specialist or in a similar role, preferably in a middle school setting.
    • Strong understanding of reading development, instructional strategies, and assessment tools.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with students, parents, and staff.
    • Ability to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
    • Proficiency in using technology and educational software to enhance reading instruction.
    • Commitment to continuous professional development and staying informed about literacy best practices.
    • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
