Successful experience as a teacher. Principal certification is preferred but not required. Work Year The Dean of Students shall work an additional five (5) days in June and an additional seven (7) days in August beyond the regular work year otherwise applicable to bargaining unit members. The additional twelve (12) days shall be scheduled flexibly by mutual agreement between the Dean of Students and the building principal.
Compensation for Additional Days The Dean of Students shall be compensated for the additional twelve (12) workdays at the employee's applicable per diem rate. Additional Personal Day Effective July 1 of each year in which the employee serves as Dean of Students under this MOU, the Dean shall receive one (1) additional personal day in addition to the personal leave otherwise provided under the terms and conditions being maintained by the parties.
One-Year Trial Period and Review The Middle School Dean of Students position is established initially for the school year only. No later than March 1, 2027, the District shall notify the Association and the employee serving as Dean of Students whether the District intends to continue the position for the school year, propose modifications to the position, or discontinue the position at the conclusion of the school year.
If the parties mutually agree to continue the position, this MOU may be renewed, modified, replaced by a successor MOU, or incorporated into a successor collective bargaining agreement by mutual written agreement. Employment Protection if the Position Is Discontinued The parties recognize that an employee accepting the Dean of Students position should not suffer a loss of employment solely because the District subsequently determines that the one-year trial position will not continue.
If the District eliminates or discontinues the Dean of Students position at the conclusion of the school year, the employee serving in the position shall be provided continued employment within the Association bargaining unit for the school year, provided the employee is properly certificated and legally qualified to perform the assigned professional duties. If the employee previously held another bargaining unit position with the District and that position is vacant at the time the Dean of Students position is discontinued, the employee shall have the right to return to that position.
If the employee's former position is not vacant, or if the employee was hired from outside the District specifically for the Dean of Students position, the District shall place the employee in another bargaining unit professional assignment for which the employee is properly certificated and legally qualified. If no bargaining unit vacancy exists for which the employee is properly certificated and legally qualified, the District shall nevertheless provide the employee with a bargaining unit professional assignment for the school year for which the employee is properly certificated and legally qualified.
The expiration, elimination, or discontinuation of the Dean of Students pilot position shall not, standing alone, constitute a basis for the suspension, furlough, or other loss of employment of the employee serving in that position. Nothing in this section shall prevent the District from taking employment action for reasons wholly unrelated to the expiration, elimination, or discontinuation of the Dean of Students position, provided such action is otherwise permitted by the terms and conditions being maintained by the parties and applicable law.
Salary Placement, Seniority, and Benefits Service performed as Dean of Students shall constitute continuous bargaining unit service for all purposes. The employee shall retain all accumulated seniority, leave, salary schedule placement, benefits, and other contractual rights while serving in the position. If the Dean of Students position is discontinued and the employee is placed in another bargaining unit position pursuant to Section 7 of this MOU, the employee shall suffer no reduction in salary schedule step or column placement as a result of the discontinuation of the Dean of Students position.
