Voice Coach - Private Instruction

The Shipley School seeks a private music lesson instructor for voice
.

This person will join our list of private music teachers and will be employed directly by parents. Private lesson instructors are paid by families and typically schedule 30, 45, or 60-minute lessons.

The qualified candidate will be expected to:

  • Introduce and demonstrate developmentally appropriate vocal techniques with an emphasis on vocal health.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of classical repertoire and techniques, as well as those common to musical theater, pop, jazz, etc. in weekly assignments.
  • Schedule and teach weekly lessons on campus in their area of expertise.
  • Communicate clearly, timely, and respectfully with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Submit lesson timesheets by the first of each month to the Private Lesson Coordinator.
  • Introduce and demonstrate instrument(s) in coordination with music ensemble directors as needed.
  • Coordinate developmentally appropriate performance opportunities for students on and/or off campus.
  • Help students manage and record progress over time.
  • Stay current with teaching trends, best practices, and knowledge of the performance repertoire.
  • Encourage students to participate in extracurricular musical offerings in our region, including but not limited to: performing ensembles, recitals, workshops, summer festivals, all-state festivals and competitions when and where appropriate.
  • Enjoy working with young musicians, help build excitement around participation in music making, and have a good sense of humor.

The candidate must hold a minimum of a bachelor's degree in vocal performance or music education, with the voice as the primary area of study.
