Job Summary

The K-5 Instructional Specialist provides targeted, direct instruction to students in small group settings to address academic gaps, extend learning, and support differentiated instruction in allcoreacademic areas. Working collaboratively with classroom teachers, the specialist also supports instructional best practices through data analysis, and curriculum alignment to enhance student achievement.

Job Goal

To effectively support and accelerate the academic achievement of students in grades K-5 byidentifyinglearning gaps, implementing targeted interventions, and collaborating with classroom teachers to ensure all students meet or exceed grade-level standards in reading, writing, and math.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in educationor related field (required).
  • Master's degree in Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a content-specific area (preferred).
  • Valid teaching certification for elementary grades (K-5).
  • Reading Specialist, ESL, or Special Education certification (preferred).
  • At least 5 years of successful K-5 classroom teaching experience
  • Experience providing direct instructional support to students and/or co-teaching (preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to use data to inform instruction.
Essential Functions Direct Instruction
  • Provide small-grouppull-out instruction to learners in need of intervention, enrichment, or support in core academic areas.
  • Use research-based instructional methods aligned with district curriculum and state standards.
  • Regularly assess student progress and adjust instruction based on data.
Collaboration & Coaching
  • Partner with classroom teachers to plan and deliver instruction that meets the needs of all students, including those performing below, on, or above grade level.
  • Model effective teaching strategies during co-teaching and planning sessions.
  • Collaborate with intervention teams, special education, and support staff to align services and supports.
Data & Assessment
  • Analyze formative and summative assessment data toidentifystudent needs andmonitorprogress.
  • Maintain detailed records of student participation, performance, and growth in intervention/enrichment groups.
  • Support teams inusing data to inform instruction and implement differentiated strategies.
Curriculum Support
  • Assist with the implementation of district curriculum and instructional materials.
  • Align small-group instruction and co-teaching lessons with classroomobjectivesand learning standards.
  • Support vertical and horizontal alignment across grade levels
Marginal Functions
  • Strong understanding of K-5 curriculum, instruction, and intervention practices.
  • Effective small-groupand co-teaching instructional skills.
  • Proficient in formative assessment and data analysis.
  • Skilled collaborator with strong interpersonal and coaching abilities.
  • Technologically proficient in educational tools and platforms.
  • Organized, flexible, and student focused.
  • Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands

    Qualified applicants willpossessgood oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, problem solving, and consultation and collaboration skills. Oral and written communication isrequiredfor sharing information with staff and parents. Computer processing and data entry arerequiredfor this position. Visual acuity and hearing arerequiredfor the delivery of assessment, intervention, and consultation services. Occasional lifting of materials and equipment of less than 25 pounds may be required.

    The ability tomaintainemotional control under stress and work with multiple deadlines, a variety of people and personnel, and frequent interruptions is required.
