Job Summary

The Construction Services Specialist – Architectural oversees all architectural and structural items to support the successful execution of new store builds, remodels, and prototype projects. Acting as subject‑matter expert, the role supports store design development, construction processes, vendor coordination, procurement, project support, and continuous improvement, ensuring quality, consistency, cost control, and efficient project execution across all project locations.

Principal Duties
  • Create and manage the holistic process of architectural and structural items from design completion through execution to drive quality and implement change.
  • Provide technical expertise for building system performance for prototypes, custom projects, and remodels.
  • Oversee architectural and structural vendors and consultants, including canopy steel, building steel, interior finishes, millwork, doors, hardware, food service equipment, signage, and glazing.
  • Lead vendor coordination meetings, review project milestones, submittals, and RFIs, and drive accountability.
  • Train and manage vendor partners to ensure Wawa standards, policies, and procedures during all phases of design.
  • Develop and maintain specifications and designs, value‑engineer initiatives, and new construction materials and designs.
  • Act as subject‑matter expert on the design process from concept to rollout.
  • Develop metrics and methodology for testing, analysis, refinement, selection, and specification of new designs.
  • Issue communications and lead training to ensure field execution and review maintenance requirements.
  • Conduct annual vendor meetings to review performance and align expectations.
  • Execute procurement of materials, perform scope verification, quantity takeoffs, and alignment with budgets.
  • Maintain cost ownership for vendors, review quotes, resolve discrepancies, and provide cost variance analysis.
  • Provide technical guidance for RFP processes, bid leveling, vendor evaluation, and cost analysis.
  • Lead onboarding, testing, implementation, and performance evaluation of new vendors.
  • Perform plan reviews, ensure constructability, and coordinate with design and architecture teams.
  • Resolve field and design issues, minimize impacts on schedule and cost.
  • Support Project Managers with decision‑making, design resolution, and schedule maintenance.
  • Evaluate safety impacts to contractors and associates when considering new materials or practices.
  • Conduct site visits to assess vendor performance and product quality.
  • Maintain strong vendor and stakeholder relationships, ensuring communication and issue resolution.
  • Lead design and construction change processes, including scope evaluation, cost impact analysis, and documentation.
  • Maintain vendor tracking logs and ensure accurate reporting.
  • Provide forecasting and recommendations for vendor programs to address gaps and opportunities.
  • Adjust schedules and needs based on budget, permit status, and weather.
  • Develop and implement new vendor programs, define scope, establish performance standards, and integrate into procurement workflows.
  • Coordinate cross‑functional support for new projects and programs.
  • Monitor emerging industry trends, technologies, and best practices; pilot, evaluate, and implement new products, materials, and processes.
  • Ensure compliance with contract documents, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Create a benchmarking database across retail partners and recommend best‑in‑class practices.
  • Attend industry events to develop a network of partners for benchmarking and troubleshooting.
  • Create and maintain a vendor scorecard program.
  • Represent the company and testify before municipal plan reviewers, advisory boards, and other groups as required.
