Energy Director

Waga Energy was established to further our founders' commitments to preserving the common good and acting collectively to ensure a sustainable future. Committed to the fight against global warming and to a sustainable energy transition, Waga Energy has developed a breakthrough technology to recover landfill gas into biomethane, also called Renewable Natural Gas (RNG). Our WAGABOX® landfill gas upgrading units deliver high-quality biomethane, regardless of the quality of the raw biogas.

The biomethane produced by the WAGABOX® can be injected directly into the gas grid or used as fuel for vehicles. Waga Energy builds, owns, operates, and maintains the WAGABOX® units under long-term contracts with landfill owners, and biomethane sales revenue is shared.

Reporting to the President of Waga Energy Inc., the Energy Director is responsible for maximizing the value of the RNG produced by Waga Energy's WAGABOX® projects. Primary accountabilities include developing and implementing the strategy for the energy activities in the USA, leading and developing the Energy team, securing long- and short-term revenues, managing the balance of production and sales volumes, and acquiring and maintaining the certification of green attributes associated with the production of RNG through federal programs including the EPA Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) program.

  • Maintain and communicate internally on the US offtake development sales pipeline; track and communicate internally on the balance between production volumes and contracted sales.
  • Develop and implement an electricity sourcing strategy, including negotiation of on- and off-site Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), fixed price contracts, and rolling hedging strategies.
  • Support the Business Development team with the administration of landfill operator partnership agreements and the negotiation of associated off-take and energy sourcing contracts.
  • Follow regulatory matters related to RNG commercialization in North America (USA and Canada), in particular regulations related to environmental attributes for the transportation market; identify lobbying opportunities and implement related actions.
  • Control the application of energy contracts and invoicing on existing sites and support the invoicing team with the establishment of monthly invoices and associated documentation.
  • Administer all RIN and other environmental attributes related submissions and transfers.
  • Manage the RNG green attribute programs (Q-RIN certification under the EPA RFS program, etc.) and ensuring program compliance from facility registration throughout the lifetime of the contract.
  • Develop risk management strategies on the sale and purchase of energy to ensure the long-term success of the projects.

The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic, self-motivated professional with a passion for sustainability, and:

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, business administration, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience with energy transactions and electricity purchase contracts including PPAs, as well as RNG or RIN sales contracts.
