Status: full time ( 40 hours/week)
The Waste Handler collects, transports and disposes of all hospital waste types with adherence to all applicable policies and procedures to assure a safe hospital environment.
Responsibilities:
+ Assist Facility Services with confined space management as authorized by department director.
+ Perform clean up of spills, including hazardous spills under direction of supervisory personnel.
+ Order necessary supplies such as; liners, tape and boxes for medical waste removal on a timely basis.
+ Act as contact person for contracted waste removal companies; coordinate timely pick up for bulk waste and medical waste.
+ Box, weigh and record regulated biohazard and chemotherapeutic waste, utilizing proper personal protective equipment following written policies and procedures; transport waste to locked storage area.
+ Assist with moves and set ups.
+ Mix, use, and dispose of chemicals according to directions.
+ Perform minor repairs on equipment machinery (tune up riding parking lot sweeper, general maintenance to pressure washer).
+ Monitor overall operation of compactor and performs minor adjustments and recalibrates when needed.
+ Analyze compactor weights and biohazard output to continuously improve cost-effectiveness.
+ Transport bulk waste (refuse) and medical waste (biohazard and chemotherapeutic) to proper storage and disposal areas.
+ Manage parking lots and outside trash receptacles, compactor area, medical waste storage areas, outside entrances and designated smoking areas for debris and trash.
+ Collect and distribute tilt trucks and medical waste boxes to appropriate locations on patient floors and various areas throughout the hospital.
+ Promptly and accurately report any improper disposal of medical waste and assists in finding origin and root cause analysis.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous health care, housekeeping or waste handling experience is preferred.
