Descriptionof Work
This position supports the inspection of bridges and related structures to help ensure they meet safety standards and construction requirements. Primary responsibilities will involve field work, documentation, and teamwork to help maintain safe and reliable transportation routes. As a Bridge Inspector, you will perform the following duties:
- Bridge Inspections:
Inspect bridge components and identify signs of wear, damage, or deterioration - Field Measurements:
Measure and record conditions of structural members and site features - Report Preparation:
Prepare inspection reports that document findings and needed repairs - Record Maintenance:
Maintain inspection records, photos, sketches, and project documentation - Support Surveys:
Assist with underwater inspections, deck surveys, and crane inspections - Project Coordination:
Work with staff, agencies, and the public to support inspection activities
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch
- This position requires travel

Opportunity to work from home part‑time, subject to internet requirements and approved location - Salary:
In some cases, the starting salary may be non‑negotiable
- One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title), or
- Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1, or
- Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work, or
- Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics, or
- One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training
- This position requires possession of an active non‑commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License or equivalent
- You must meet the PA residency requirement
- You must be able to perform essential job functions
